The Importance of Maintaining Community Roads in small Towns: A Case Study of D.E. Andritsainas in Krestenon.

Updated: Feb 3

In this project, interventions were implemented concerning the construction of retaining walls, road restorations, and the management of stormwater. Measures and works were carried out for the restoration of damages to infrastructure crucial for living conditions, the natural environment, and the economy of the Municipality of Pyrgos.

The interventions carried out include work on the main road of the Dragogi community, where a retaining wall was constructed with a total length of twenty meters and an average height of one and a half meters. Additionally, in the Fanari community, on the road to the cemetery, the pipe was covered with concrete to simultaneously widen the road. Furthermore, in the Litsaina community, a stormwater drainage channel was constructed on the existing pipe for easier cleaning and to prevent blockage from transported materials.

In the Litsaina community, a stormwater drainage channel was constructed on the existing pipe for easier cleaning and to prevent blockage from transported materials. Moving on to the Rovia area, reference was made to a minor but solitary landslide that resulted in the destruction of the road surface. Subsequently, the road was widened, followed by the creation of an asphalt pavement. In the center of the settlement, a retaining wall was built, along with the restoration of the road. At the entrance of the Matessi settlement towards Sekoula, a retaining wall for the road has been constructed. On the southern side of the Myloi settlement, on the road to the cemetery, a landslide has occurred, and for the municipality's restoration, a retaining wall will be constructed.

In Sykies, there was a winter trench that transported a lot of sediment materials and couldn't be easily cleaned. Therefore, a boat-shaped trench was constructed to ensure the necessary slope so that the sediment materials wouldn't remain within the trench.

Finally, near the playground of the Andritsaina community, the management of rainwater was addressed by constructing a transverse ditch to guide it to a drainage trench. On the road leading to the hostel for the smooth passage of heavy vehicles such as ambulances, fire trucks, etc., a new road surface was built. Additionally, a curb was constructed, while drainage solutions for rainwater were appropriately configured.
